Fuel Tank selector issues

I figured it out. I feel like an idiot. it was the fusable link for the fuel pump.

I have a 88 with the 2.9 and dual headaches. I mean tanks.
What I have: new pumps in each tank, new high pressure pump, new selector valve.
My problem: when the in dash switch is flipped between tanks it sends power to the selected tank just fine and will run off both, BUT will only return to the rear tank. And now it will start and run fine for a few seconds and the due as if out if fuel , let it sit a while starts right up and then dies just the same.
Any ideas?
