Fuel tank filler neck hose question (longbed vs. short)

The replacement filler tube I bought off ebay had a thin/flimsy inner tube. The original inner tube is metal/rubber and very rigid. The flange holes for the securing screws were also off. I used my original inner tube and flange and only used the new outer tube. But for $35, it was/is worth every penny.

Just an update on this...

I ended up buying two hoses off ebay about 4 months apart. There was no brand or company names on them whatsoever when they arrived, but had the pt# "ADS1689" on the end of the box, and were made in China. This was one of few the seller's listings specifically said would fit a longbed Ranger.

The hose as-is ended up being about an inch too short I recall. To get it to fit properly I had to reposition the outer hose on it's fittings almost as far as it could go while still being able to secure it with the hose clamp.

The 2nd hose I had bought to put on my BII (since there seemed to be no low-cost direct-fit option for a BII at the time). To fit the BII I had to cut the hose a little shorter and reuse the OEM metal neck (the neck it came with wouldn't fit properly up in the BII's filler door area).

Last week I found the one on my BII had cracked badly much like the OEM one did (it was right about 2 years old). The one on my Ranger oddly isn't showing any cracks yet, though I suspect it's time may be right around the corner.

For anyone buying these china-made hoses, I suggest fully wrapping the outside of it up in a good high-quality electrical tape (Scotch Super-88 for example), especially where the hose bulges out where it's pushed over the fittings (loosen the hose clamps so you can wrap it under there too). With any luck, this might hopefully keep ozone and other air pollutants from attacking (dry-rotting) the cheap chinese rubber so quickly.

Will report back... (if I can remember lol).
