Hi,
I have a 99 XLT Ranger 4 x 4 with a 3.0 flex fuel. It has 78,000 mi on it. I've been running ethanal about 1 year. About 3 months ago the engine developed a miss and it would stumble. I diagnosed the problem to be an open fuel injector. I replaced it and it ran fine. 2 weeks ago the same thing happened. To no avail another injector open. This week it happened again, another injector. This time I'm replacing the remaining 4. Could the computor or the cam or crank sensor be sending more amps to the injectors because of the increased ethanal and fry the injectors ?
Thanks, jackpiner1

the injectors receive a set voltage and draw a set amperage.

the way your computer allows more fuel to enter the engine is by increasing the injector pulse rate. injectors are either open or closed, so the computer opens and closes them rapidly to regulate fuel flow. the longer the injector stays open, the more fuel gets through before the computer closes the injector.

i have heard rumors that engines that run ethanol regularly have a high injector failure rate, but ive never confirmed this. it would be interesting to know how your injectors failed.

Thanks for reply, I will inform you when I find out more.

Instead of pulse rate, it's pulse width. The wider the pulse width, the longer the injector stays open.

I have a 99 3.0 FFV with only 43k on it. I regularly fill it with e85. About a month ago, I lost an injector. I had my local mechanic replace it. Three days later, another injector died. Back to the mechanic. He told me that he had a hell of a time finding a flex fuel injector for the ranger. After that incident, I haven't had any more injector problems.
