fuel gauge????

fuel gauge problems????

hello im new to this form so idk if this is already out there....
i have a 99 ranger xlt 4x4.....was driving along and bam fuel gauge goes way below empty. odd part is when truck is off it reads 1/4 which is what i have in my tank befor it started this. and when you turn it on it reads realy empty. any ideas

not exactly the same but most likely the same stuff i told him to do you should try too.

thanks for the info and from what i could gather on-line it seems more like a bad wire some where, cause it pins at empty when turned on but when off it seems to work.

fuel gauge

My gauge acted like that and when I changed the fuel pump I found that the float had a hole in it and it had sunk to the bottom of the tank. Replaced that and now it works fine.

well i got it last night and it works fine which leads me to think a wire some where
