Alright im doing a frame up resto on my ranger, and doing it right this time around.

I'm down to ordering the fuel cell and have ran into what I might think be an issue. The fuel cell Im looking at is the 16 gallon from SummitRacing but they only have ones with the GM sending unit.

1.Is there an issue with using this fuel cell besides the ohms on the unit
being different?

I was thinking of redoing my dash to have all custom gauges anyway just want to make sure there isnt anything else I should look out for.

2.Also the engine is carb'd, what flow rate should I be looking out for on
the sending unit and what type of regulator should I use return or non-
return?

Thanks for any input you might have

ok, you can use your stock ranger sender if you want to maintain your factory gauges.

if you descide to go the aftermarket way. check out www.dolphingauges.com

and, a carb requires 7 psi of fuel pressure. id get a return style regulator. and mount the pump as close to the fuel cell as possible.

a return style keeps the pump cooler as it returns the fuel thats not wanted, rather than have it build up all that pressure.

flow rate on the sender. not sure.

hope this helps.

Alright the motor I order is a complete turnkey engine (400HP!) and comes with a mechanical fuel pump bolted to the motor. Do I still run a return style regulator with that?

Also thanks for the gauges site.

Also the truck currently has a running v8 in it with the stock ranger gas tank and a return style regulator.

nope, but the mechanical fuel pump wont fit. what kind of engine is it?

and why not just keep the stock ranger tank?

The engine is a 302 and I thought about the mechanical fuel pump not fitting, what is another option to keep a mechanical fuel pump.

Did a little reading... i guess you can use a carter fuel pump from a 70-73 econoline van because they are reversed when you mount them.

I HATE mechanical fuel pumps. Please consider running electric. Even in-tank fuel pumps are better than mechanical, in my poor ignorant opinion. Having fought mechanical fuel pumps on 60's and 70's grain trucks for the last 30 years, I won't have another one.

a good mechanical fuel pump is good for light duty street machines. like a holley, or and edelbrock

but on a v8 ranger, especially a 302, i wouldnt run run. those econoline ones suck.

just get a good electric fuel pump. and a good return style regulator.

The fuel cell comes with a sending unit. For some reason I thought it came with a pump. What kind of electrical pump do you recommend. And how much psi do I run up to the motor.

i went through this with my 20 gal cell. if you want to use your ranger sender it will require extensive modification to the cell. and the height is likely not correct to give an accurate reading. eqqus makes inexpensive senders that will bolt in place with the exact same flange as your universal sender in your cell that you adjust the arm for the tank you have. and they offer the gm and ford units. i bought mine from checker auto parts for $35

a gm is 0-90 ohms
and ford is 78-10 ohms

here is a link to one you can get from jc whitney too http://www.jcwhitney.com/ADJUSTABLE...072;0;100001;ProductName;27;0;0;0;2005714;0;0

no problem. where'd ya get that engine from?

From phoenixengine.com 302 aluminum heads. You can get the base model for around 3200 and piece together yourself. Or you can have custom parts put on to fit your application and have them make a turnkey version, which is the route I went. With shipping I spent just under 5000.

Ive figured out my fuel/gauge issues. I bought a fuel line kit from summit for 239.00 from pump to motor, and a kit from sump to pump for 31.95 with NPT fittings all I have to do is mount, route, and screw them onto the tank.

For my guages Im having Blackwood Metal in Columbus Ohio fabricate me a brushed aluminum piece exactly like my stock plastic dash piece minus the tach and speedo holes. And Im putting gauges that I bought from summit to be fitted into the new dash.

Im finally able to get my truck done the right way, and I cant wait to see the finished product (again) this time around.

Soon as pics are available Ill post them up.
