Front Wheel Drive Ranger

if you've lost the rear shaft and need to get out of a tough spot with just the front drive,go easy on the gas.too much torque on just the front will break the t-case housing....i found this out the hard way.

Me and a few friends drove around in a pathfinder fwd because the rear end started falling out it was so rotten and put the driveshaft in an impossiable angle. We did peel outs and all that stuff, never hurt it any. We later tore the motor out for another truck and junked the rest.

Buy a car... best way to get better mileage. There's only so much you can do to a truck to get better mileage, and when you reach the point where nothing more can be done, you'll find out that you haven't gained that much.

The main reason front wheel drives get better gas mileage is that it does away with the weight of the driveshaft and rear end with gears. I don't like FWD to say the least,to me it's having two tires trying to do everything, steering, braking and acceleration and bear most of the weight of the car.

fuel economy = diesel swap.

Find a Volkswagen TDI and put in there, 30+ mpg would be possible. This, of course, wouldn't be an easy swap by any means. Probably better off driving the car it came from or finding an old Mercedes diesel (OM617 is the engine name). The Mercedes swap would probably be easier but a few less mpgs.

or an 86/87 ranger with the 2.3td.mine always got amazing mileage....and wheeled great too.
