I've looked but can't find anything pertaining to my problem.

while replacing the front shocks the lower mount on the arm broke.

I have a 1994 Ranger 2 wheel drive, 4.0L extended cab.

of course this happened too late to call the dealership and ask questions so my question is, is that stud removable. I have tried to remove it but no luck so far. I have used a chisel, heat wrench and a stud extractor.

I'm taking that arm off but have ran into a little problem, I got the spring off and that long bolt doesn't seem to want to come out.

any help would be appreciated.

ok, maybe I didn't explain well enough so here's a picture

front lower shock mount

the lower shock mount is on what they called the radius arm #10.

looks like it's not a separate part so going to need another radius arm.

so any ideas about how to get that bolt out?

had a few people look, no suggestions?

Drill it out and put a bolt through it.

I just cut mine flush and welded a bolt on for a shock mount.

Right here in TRS's very own Technical Library ..... http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Fall2003/Broken_Lower_shock_mount_on_Radius_Arms.htm ..... :)

I have suffered the same problem, as have plenty of others. MY best fix was to cut off the remaining stud with a 90* angle cutter with a cut off wheel, then drill out the center to 5/8". I then used a shoulder bolt (Google it in "images") to replace what was existing. The stock stuff is surprisingly soft and using quality tools will make this an "easy" task. I had both of mine completely replaced inside of 2 hours.

I searched the forum. sorry.

thanks for pointing me to that.

my question about the bolt is the one that goes through the axle that bolts the radius arm to the axle. I can't get that thing to move for anything. I've tried a breaker bar with a 4' cheater, won't turn. I've tried tapping and then smacking it with a hammer. nothing.

from mid-89 on the lower mount is a "Stud" welded to the arm.

On earlier trucks the shock mount is a simple through bolt with a bolted on brace bracket.

The early style bolts right in place of the later arm but you've still
gotta seperate it from the I-beam, and that can be an ugly, ugly job...
