My seal has a leak when I am going in 4wd. I got the seal to replace it, but the problem is removing the front drive shaft. There are 4 bolts holding the front "U" joint together. The bolts have no room on the inside (probably from heavy rust) between the hex head and the bracket. Both ends of the shaft are the same. Am I going to have to drill off the heads or is there an easier way?

Try using a Torx bit. I think the size is either a T-30 or 35.

No its should be a torx (star) head. True using a propane torch to heat the yoke, its always worked for me.

OK...I will look tonight.

till tomorrow.....

They're both a hex head, and Torx head.

Mine are also too close to the yoke to get a regular wrench on it, but the Torx whips them right out no prob (yeah, heat the yoke up a little bit, IIRC Ford put some pretty tough Loctite on them).

they are a t27 torx bit to be exact on early ones anyway

ok, yeah I saw that. I guess it helps to use a light when I work under there. I am hopefully going to get to it this weekend.
