ok guys, on the pass side axles shafts for the d28, where the slip yoke is, there is a rubber seal that seals the splines of the 2 shafts(slip yoke). this seal broke taking(forcefully pulling) the axles apart, and the groove it sat in was rusted thru in a spot. my questions are
1) do i need this seal if i have the expansion boot sealed tightly
2) if i do need this seal where do i get it?
3) do u think where the groove it sits in is rusted out, that will cause a problem wiith the new seal?

sounds like it was an old boot and it ripped go get a new one from a parts store clean the shafts off b4 you put the new boot on

im not talking about the boot, the seal im talking about is an actualy o-ring type that goes into a recessed groove on the shaft that goes into the diff. its on the female portion of the slip yoke, and seems to seal off the splines. this is inside the boot.

i would upload a pic from for some reason i cant upload pics to photobucket from work

front axle slip yoke seal

thats where the seal goes, and you can see where the axle got rusted out

That part that's rusted though is not part of the axle yoke, it's what's left of the seal's metal shell pressed on the end. However if the outer boot is intact and sealed well, the inner seal is not absolutely necessary.

Lol

Just doing what I can to help :icon_thumby:

Good luck
