I took my hub of today and noticed that there was a groove around the axle just below the splines. I was wondering if there was suppost to be a c-clip or something there so I went to the tech library and looked at the expanded view --> http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/diagrams/d28.gif and saw that there is infact suppost to be a c-clip on there. Now to ask my question. lol Is that c-clip really needed? Cuz I have had the truck for 5 years and have not noticed any problems. If it is needed does anyone know what size c-clip I need? THANKS!!!

Not really something to get excited about.

There should be a splined washer and the clip on the end of the axle stub. This helps keep the splines engaged in the hub and keeps the seal on the axle shaft against the back of the spindle.

Worst thing that can happen is that the splines will pull out of the hub and you will loose 4x4.

i had to go to the dealer to get mine. my passeger side was pulling out from the hub. it was like $13 for the whole little kit. the splined washer and the c-clip and a few other little things. they told me stuff like that was hard to get. autozone didnt have

NW

i see. thanks for the tip. Ill check the junk yard first and if they don't have any (which they should, they have prolly close to 100 rangers at the yard i go to. lol) ill go to the dealer.
