i have the A4LD and want to swap for the 5-speed:headbang: but what about the tranny mounts? Are they the same or do you have to change them?:icon_welder:

and does the transfer case bolt right up to it?

88 broncoII, 4x4, 6" lift 33-12.50's msd coil. nothin special:icon_cheers:

if you are going to the fm146 then you dont need to change any mounts and yes the t-case will bolt right up....but if you go to the fm145 then you need a longer rear drive shaft and a shorter front shaft....also you will need to move your tranny mount forward 2 inches....the hole are already in the frame

I have the front shaft you'd need for the 145. It's a tiny bit stuck in the t-case ATM, but if you want it I'm sure I can get it out of there. I just need motivation to try.

That article is on doing an FM145 to M5OD swap and geared towards the Ranger more than the B2, but a lot of the changes that it says to make in regards to wiring and mount positions will apply if you are using a 145, you just have to do it backwards.

i want to do wich ever is easyer. and cheap, i already had a rear drive shaft out of a 2dr explorer 4x4 fabed for my lift since my pos gkn driveshaft shattered. so probably the 146. i had an 89 b2 that i rolled and totaled. i miss the 5 speed and the A4LD i heard is junk. but i dont seem to have any issues turning the 33s. but i like being in control of the power and gears.

146 should be just about bolt-in. If you don't mind doing a little extra work on the inside, go find yourself an M5OD. Except for the shifter not sitting in quite the same spot it will be just as bolt in as the 146.

The M5OD is a Mazda tranny, if I were you, I would try and find the M5R1 tranny in 4wd. It is stronger than the Mits., and doesn't have as many of the problems. Look for a Ranger or Explorer, the trans will bolt in like it was meant to be there. I have seen a couple in the JY here in Prescott, AZ, so they are out there.
