Franken Ranger (1996 ranger w/ 351w and zf5)

Hey what's going on y'all. as you've read I'm building my 96 ranger into a trophy truck. I've currently got the 351 in it and the zf5. I'm going to carb swap it from fuel injection though i don't really want to deal with the electronics. my question is how are y'all keeping your trucks cold? im thinking of relocating the radiator to behind the cam in the bed but id have to run pressured coolant lines to the front and as we all know itll get warm again. any help is appreciated. Thanks

no because the 351 mounted where the 4.0 was

Here is a guy that put a 5.0 in his truck, and has the radiator in the front. The 5.8 is the same length as the 5.0, just the 5.8 is taller and wider. And you might need to research and install a shorter waterpump from a explorer to get more clearance.

Water Pump – Ford Motorsports offers two short water pump kits;


The first is a short pump for “V” belt drives. Will fit 289/302/351W drivers side outlet and provides approx. 1-1/2″ of additional clearance (Part# FOR-M-8501-E351). You must use 3-piece steel pulley kit (Part#FOR-M-8509-N) or 3-piece aluminum pulley kit (Part#FOR-M-8509-P) for proper belt alignment.


The second is a short pump for serpentine belt drives. It will fit 289/302/351W drivers side outlet and provides approx.1-3/4″ of additional clearance (Part#FOR-M-8501-A50). The kit includes a special timing chain cover pump and gaskets. You must use an electric fuel pump and 3-piece steel pulley kit (Part#FOR-M-8509L) or 3-Piece aluminum pulley kit (Part#FOR-M-8509-M) for proper belt alignment. (This paragraph submitted by Marc)

im mounting my radiator on the roll cage in the bed. after doin some research i found out that the cool side will absorb some heat before it gets to the engine but its negligible. Im just going to run a oversized radiator and a electric water pump.
