Frame rust Preparation

the majority of my frame i stripped with a 4 1/2 angle grinder equipped with a large wire wheel. just be sure to use some type of sealer if you go to smooth bare metal, otherwise the rust will come through once its subject to moisture ( parked in the grass for a week or less). POR 15 likes to have "tooth" to grab onto, so if its not a show truck just hit it with the wheel, use some wax and grease remover or laquer thinner to clean the metal off and then put on a few coats of the "black magic" and then spray some underbody coating on the "high traffic" areas (rear wheel wells, front spring buckets, and anywhere else that gets blasted with the elements).

I want to thank everyone for their input.

I live near the Eastwood Co. and they have some good products that compete or are possibly better than Por-15. Check out their site at www.Eastwood.com.

Eastwood has a frame kit that has all the needed supplies to complete the frame restoration. The kit consists of rust converter (parts 1 & 2), rust encapsulator, and chassis black paint. They also have a product called EW Fast Etch, and Fast Etch Gel, that might help get the rust off and save the labor time of sand blasting or wire wheeling the parts.

you cant go wrong with eastwood, they make really good stuff. if my company supplied eastwood products i would have used them over the POR 15. good luck with the project, im sure youll learn alot about your truck in the process, i know i did.
