When did Ford stop putting cartridge filters in the reservoir and start using them as JUST a reservoir? I know my friend's 86 BII still had a filter in it, but I don't remember if it had a normal inline filter as well.

I have an 88 Ranger with an inline filter on the frame rail just before the engine, but was curious (before I break it) if the reservoir also had one in it as well. My dual tank 86 and 89 fullsize trucks do not have the filter in them, so I was curious of there was a cut and dry transition year or way to tell on the Rangers before I mess with it.

I can say my 86 Bronco II had a reservoir filter and no in line filter.

We tried narrowing this down in another thread. My take away was that if it has a high pressure in line there isn't a filter in the reservoir. Not sure you want to take that as gospel though.

I know both my fuel pumps were bad... I took out all of the old stuff and went with a single high pressure in tank pump and a single in line filter. Made new lines to plumb it and called it a day.

This was my thinking as well. I guess I'll ignore it unless it becomes an issue.haha
