Found a 302

I worked in a machine shop doing engines and I never seen a broken 302 crank not saying it doesnt happen but its not common. I have seen a few SBC cranks that were broke and a few 3L V6 fords but never a 302. As far as blocks go it depends on what power level you are planing on building. A stock rebuild with a mild performance any block will be fine but if you are going to build a all out motor then an aftermarket block is what you should build.

wow.....i have broken two in just my red ranger.....split one block in half tuning and my personal engine from age....350 plus k and a less then easy life.

i dont even know how many i have seen puked at the track. even 351's i have seen split down the middle....(but they were sprayin like mad)

couldnt figure out if the crank broke and took the block or the block failed and took the crank on some of them.

but under 350 hp the little bastards are plenty tough. run em right out of water a few times and get away with it..

just out of curiosity what level of power is was it putting out?

All truck cranks. I am not saying that the SBF cranks dont break, I just have not seen any myself. We had a big chevy dump truck come in running with a bronken crank in it (tall deck 366ci). We also had many of imports come in with a rod hanging out the side of the block.

I've seen a 4 banger Cat diesel break a crank (with a fluid drive transmission in a 922) and a John Deere 6 banger as well in a front end loader. Both broke due to using forward/reverse in place of inoperative brakes. Can't explain why the two 5.0 cranks broke, as neither were abused, other than they were weak to start with. The 86-up cranks have excellant casting qualities, so good they almost look like forgings.
