That is still a baby truck, there are others that will handle the load even better so why stop there?

$500 will get you a L-Series grain truck you could put a gooseneck hitch on and rip a one ton up oneside and down the other.

You're comparing pickups to semi's... completely different ball game.

Never said they shouldn't be towing anything... Every time someone rolled through the park with a half ton pulling a horse trailer, the truck was always sagging, every brand did it

Every time someone rolled through the park with a half ton pulling a horse trailer, the truck was always sagging, every brand did it, especially the dodges, the point is that people seem to think they can pull the world with their half tons, when really they're putting more strain on their trucks than they would be if they used a realistic vehicle for their applications. Just because your truck is rated to to "X" number of pounds doesn't mean you should tow that much...

i agree to a point. any 70-80-90's half ton is a pos compared to the trucks today. that ecoboost 150 will embarass any pre powerstroke 1 ton with a 351 or diesel and probably dust a 460 in many situations along with any of the other gassers.

thats overall. its stouter then any 80's pos chassis wise 1/2 3/4 or 1 ton and powertrainwise by a long shot save for the rear axle.

any 1/2 ton dragging ass with a horse trailer would have likely been fine with good bags or different springs......no way i would regularly tow that kind of weight without a full floater though, thats just ignorant.


THIS truck in question though will not end up like the one mentioned...if it has the tow package. the truck is overkill for it if indeed you opted for the big package its overkill for the horse trailer, why would one need a bigger truck?

Agreed. An 80's F-150, doesn't have half the technology a 2004+ has. The 97-2003 are pretty incredible rigs as well, but the new line up of power plants for 2011, are what I would consider ground breaking. Even the base model V-6 has more power/torque then my 4.6L, and like I previously stated.. My 4.6 does a great job towing moderately heavy loads (7-8k lbs)

Pretty soon, Half ton trucks, won't be considered half ton trucks anymore. That's just how great Ford is!

To the guy who was talking about seeing half tons dragging ass all over the place, you need to remember the average person is an idiot at best. I knew a guy who would brag about crossing the scales with 10-12,000lbs in the bed of his F150. He'd then mock me when I'd say there's no way in hell I'd attempt that in my GM.

Naturally, it's not that I doubt my truck's ability to haul that much in the bed, it's a simple fact that I *know* my truck isn't designed to handle that amount of weight and there's also no way a cargo load like that would be legal. I like to limit my interactions with Johnny Law to random spot checks where I *don't* get stopped and fined.

I will give the bragger credit, though. Unlike most big fish stories, he had the scale slips.

Have the fuel economy numbers been released or even speculated for the Ecoboost? I know Ford's website hasn't got anything listed, but, I'm still curious.
