Hi ,

My 83 ranger 2.3l has some issues with fuel delivery , it will start up and drive fine no issues for prolonged periods of time (1-2) days before it starts to die when you give it gas , you then have to wait a few hours and it will run fine again, I'm wondering what part in the fuel system is going wrong ?

thanks

Welcome to TRS :)

I would first confirm a fuel delivery problem with 50/50 test

After engine has shut down and won't restart
Spray/add fuel in the carburetor's top opening, can be gasoline or Quick Start(ether)
Try to start
If it starts, runs and dies, then YES, you do have a fuel delivery issue
If it does not start then you have a spark issue
50/50 instant results

You need to do this or you will be just chasing your tail, trying to fix the wrong thing

After engine warms up a few things can cause it to stall and not restart
Carburetor heat issue, boiling fuel in the bowl
Fuel line heat issue, aka "vapor lock"

Coil gets too hot and stops
Electronic ignition gets too hot and stops

Isnt a 83 2.3 carburated? Using a mechanical fuel pump?

Sounds like you have either a pump getting weak, or a bad accelerator pump. Possibly a fuel tank venting issue.
