I'm needing guidance selecting balljoints for a 1994 Ford Ranger XL 4x4. I have a shop that advised I needed the left side upper and lower ball joint replaced. I went to the parts store to order the balljoints and I was asked if I had a Dana35 or Dana28 axle?
The shop is going to do the labor and let me supply the parts to save a little money. The shop is charging $290.00 for the balljoints and $59 for a alignment. Does this sound resoniable?
How do I determine whether I have a Dana28 or Dana35 axle?

Thanks.

Found Information

During a search our this site I stumbled upon the below link. (tons of valuable info on this site)

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4wd_Front_Axles.html

On the back on my front axle I have the following:
Dana PN: 610410
26-SEP-93
3.27 STD
D-328-A
F37A 3002 ABB
Serial #: 3930915723

From the above weblink, it appears I have the Dana35 axle?

610410 FORD 35 FRONT 1993-94 1/2 EXPLORER ABS

What about the quoted price of labor $290, alignment $59 with me suppling the parts?

3.27 gears were only available in the Dana 35, and in a '94 you should have one anyway, even if it did have the hybrid axle, it would have D35 ball joints, so I'd say you have a Dana 35.

I don't know about price, I replaced the one that went out on mine myself...

For a well equipped shop changing out the ball joints should take less than an hour, start to finish per side. If they are only changing one side then, $290 an hour is sorta steep.

If they aren't, it's adviseable to change all the balljoints.
