Went down a rabbit hole reading some Junkyard Gems today and came across this engine. They were used to power Sherman tanks. 500hp/1,050 lb-ft. torque, and only half-again as heavy as my IDI. Maybe I can drop one into the F250? 😁

IIRC some guys use them for tractor pullers too.
 
500hp/1,050 lb-ft. torque was with 7.5:` compression, think what it would be with 10:1 pistons!

It's very tall(~48" stock) as it is 60* V-8 (5.4" bore/6"stroke).

Do you own your own oil well, it's going to be thirsty

I doubt they would compare well against a 1000+hp Allison. And Allison's don't usually do that spectacular compared to the multi-V8's

Maybe it was a one off then? Not sure. I dont pay much attention to pulling except the off the farm stuff at the fair lol

I dont really either, as a WWII aviation nut I like seeing the Allison's when I catch it, they rarely seem to do very good though.

I liked the "normal" stuff much better too. I guess I can appreciate a purpose-built pulling tractor as an engineering and building endeavor but plain-old or mildly modified tractors were always much more interesting to me. Even better was the vintage stuff.

Thats how i feel too. The modified stuff seems to be a combination of money and luck of the draw as opposed to about the machinery itself.

Id rather watch an old Farmall H pulling its guts out on a dead sled then a pro stock or whatever ripping a transfer sled 300ft
