Ford Considering Focus-based Pickup

Just read the article. I think in ten years or two models time the market will be flooded with truck like autos and will get back into cars. Fingers crossed. I love a sports sedan like the SHO

ranchero pequeño :)

I would never call a front wheel drive uni-body vehicle a "true truck".

When I was in Australia I saw a few of these Holden UTE SS mini trucks driving around

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huGHe5vHDSg

They have a 6.2l V8 aluminum block spec'ed at 362HP, 6 speed manual trans

GM owns Holden, so mini-el camino

At 0.26 you can see a Ford emblem on the front of the orange ute. Wonder what that's about?

Yes, looks like the maker of that video let a Ford Falcon XR6 slip in, VERY similar body

Side by side here: https://www.caradvice.com.au/332085...-v-holden-ute-ss-v-redline-comparison-review/

Both have good lines IMO, and reads like loads of power
But never drove one :)

This body style did catch my eye pretty quickly, then I seemed to see them everywhere, lol, and did spot the Blue Oval on one passing by me but thought I just imagined it, all the ones I looked at parked or driving by were Holdens, Lion emblem

Both the Holden and Ford Utes ended production a couple years ago in Australia - 9k units/yr didn't justify production.

So, the Aussies are howling over loss of their Utes just like we are over Ranger (Diesel RoW Ranger isn't 1:1 replacement for a V-8 Ute).

Loads of power was understatement. They are throwbacks to the big block el Camino SS's of the 70s. Unfortunately, I was WAY to uncoordinated driving on the right side of vehicle/left side of road to really be able to enjoy it.

New ranger

How about a Ranger sized Ranger instead of a mini-ranger or oversized Ranger? Put that 2.0 Turbo into a regular sized Ranger and you would have something. Just tune it for some lower end torque so you can tow and haul stuff.

This makes no sense. Ford is making 1 Ranger of 1 size. It will have the 2.3 Ecoboost only this first year.

It would actually make sense for me to have a new mini-truck(smaller than the new Ranger) for back & forth to town/work/running around and have my F150's for work trucks and towing/hauling.

i voiced that to them.

this current rollout ranger/bronco setup should be an f100-bronco....

and then build a focus or escape based truck and call that a ranger...or courier or something.

the current ranger is just not going to be affordable like a focus/escape based one could be.

yes...i would drive a 20-22k awd 4 door escape ranger as long as it had a 5.5 bed.

By it's manufacture date, the mini-truck will be either plugin hybrid or full electric.

Ford's current CEO is very pro electric.

Unsure of the demand for this thing. If they can't sell cars I don't know how well a pickup/car mutant will sell.
