For those of you with an Explorer Overhead.

Yeah, that's why I shop around. In one JY, they wanted 75 and it wasn't even the correct color, and the other one, they wanted 25 for it with the correct color. It was just the OHC for 25, so what i did was screw the bracket back into the counsel and cut the pigtail and left a short pigtail in order for me to work with. Walked up front, showed them the front, and gave them 25, and walked away with it.

Pull-A-Part JY call it a dome light, I got 2 for 3.00 each with bracket, harness end and temp sensor.

I just found out there's a Pick n Pull about 45 minutes from me. The next closest is about two hours south near St. Louis. I think I'm gonna have to go check it out, as I also STILL cannot find a friggin door latch release cable for my truck, either!!!:annoyed:

I was at the JY today and checked out some consoles. I'm just going to slice the wires from the OHC at where they go into the dash and the sensor wires at where they go into the big jumble of wires.

Anyway, for the OHC I'm pretty sure I just have to connect the wires as follows.

OHC Power -> Splice to Radio Power

OHC Speed -> Grey wire on a black box under the dash?

OHC Dome -> Splice to my dome?

OHC Maps -> In the tech library it says it needs to be powered at all times, so can I just connect it to the same place as the radio?

OHC Ground -> Duh.

OHC Dimmer -> No clue where this should go. Is it the same as suggested in the tech library? The truck for that one was a 1997, mines 1993. Alot of things are different in the dash.

Also, which years were green and which were blue?

By the way, who's bright idea was it to make head liners out of itchy crap? It's been driving me nuts, I tore down three of them today and I'm prettymuch covered in fibers, even after two showers.

Damn NOOB. come and search the tech sec.
http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/radio_wiring_diagrams.html

for the dimmer just go ahead and tap in behind the radio to the illum. wire and also just tap into the igni. power behind the radio also.

I don't know what years where what colors. but this is one mod you will really enjoy. I use mine every day.

Hm. Didn't know that.

Is it connected to the dimmer switch for the cluster as well? Or is it a Radio only thing?

I'm thinking that it is to the cluster, also. But I'm not sure I have hooked all three of mine up behind the radio, cause it is easy to get to and I'm already in the area for the switched power, speed, and then I just use that dimmer. seems to work fine for all three that I have done. also remeber that you need to set what zone you are in for the compass it helps with how many degrees mag. north is from true north. also it seems to take a few days for the temp sensor to seem act right. (I hooked mine up in the summer in PHX and I had a ice warning for a day before it was ready proper at around 110)

No, use the Radio dimmer. It's the same thing but just use the Radio dimmer wire.

Also, the Map lights wire should be hooked up to the second wire that runs to the dome light. If you hook it up to the Radio, you may be pulling too much power. Just hook them up to the wire that powers your current map lights.

I don't have map lights.

Any other places where I can find another power wire putting out the right amount of juice?

that will be the power that is always hot. I cant rem. were I took that off of. but not off the radio.

You should still check to see if you have the wiring already by taking off the dome light. You may have the wire there. If not, you could just not hook up the wire. The OHC lights will still turn on when you open the door, but you won't have the nice feature of Map lights.

If you're good at electrical stuff, then I suggest you get the power from the Cigarette 12V outlet. It will always have constant power.

I took mine off of the Radio Memory line. Any battery voltage line is going to have "the right amount of juice," just find one that's easy for you. Since I was already running several wires back to the radio I just added one more to the equation.

Problem.

I was in the truck checking the dome light wires, and I realized that they OHC might not even fit. I have a sun roof.

I have about 8.5 inches of headliner between the curve into the windshield, and the start of my sun roof.

Think it will fit? I don't.
