I am doing a trans swap frome fm145 to M50D. I found a great write-up on it from one of our members. I have it planned out but I have only one important question: The M50D trans is about 3 inches longer than the fm145 which means that the transfer case will need move back 3 inches. Of course, this also means that the rear drive shaft will need to be 3 inches shorter and the front shaft will need to be 3 inches longer. My question is "how is this accomplished?" Replacement shafts? Modified existing shafts?

You can get the front and rear drive shafts out of a newer Bronco II that had either the FM-146 or A4LD transmission and they will be a bolt in swap.

Do you know what year would be compatible. My B2 is an 86.

Any Bronco II with those transmissions.

Make sure to look at even the 2wd Bronco II's for the rear drive shaft as majority of the Bronco II 2wd's had a dummy transfer case.

Yup. Any A4LD, or any 89 and up should have the shafts that you need.

Allegedly an 04-09 F-150 front shaft will work for the rear one too, but I don't have any proof of that.

Any compatibility coming from an auto trans? Might be easier to find.
