flowmaster super 40 or super 44

i have an 88 ranger 2.9L and i was wondering if i should put a super 40 or a super 44 and i want to put it on a 3" pipe i want it to sound deeper and be pretty loud so witch on should i chose give my your opinons thanks

i think you truck will sound like crap with 3"!! pipe. you shouldn't go any higher the 2.25 with that small of an motor. but it's just my thought

They sound better with bigger pipe, all my friends RBVs sound like ass with 2" pipe. 3" is too big though.

hooker max flows sound alot better. a flowmaster will rob more power than the max flow, the flowmaster is als oknown as the rust master as they rust quickly and the hooker sounds beter in my 02

My flowmaster is still has very minor rust for being 2 years old. I'm not a fan of straight though mufflers, they're nothing more than glorified glass packs. The design of the flowmaster is diesigned to work with the exhaust pulses of the engine, so straight flowbench tests are a little misleading. I prefer the sound of a flowmaster over a straight through muffler, even if it does rob a couple HP that I wont feel anyways.

i second the super 44 series - but the exhaust is a personal choice as to the tone and decibal level. If you want something loud, don't put a muffler in at all! just pipe it..but please, leave your converter in

For a V-6 chambered is the way to go, I had a Walker turbo muffler on my 2.8 and aside from fitment (I got it used) it was probably my favorite setup to date.

Now I have a factory 2.5" stainless system off of a F-150, I noticed my low end took a hit with the bigger pipe but after I crammed it in there I am not going to take it out.

what about summit raceing mufflers the chamberd ones i herd they were the same as a flow
