flowmaster 40?

hey i got the origional 40 series and i have an auto matic tranny.. The thing is my buddy with 07 4.0 auto ranger got the exact same muffler put in. but his piping was all left stock, so its not the muffler thats makeing the sound quieter its deffinatly in the piping, im thinking its the 2,5 inch pipe from the cat to the 40 series, its like 3-4 feet and im guessing that alot if the pressure gets redused in the bigger pipe therefore there woun't be as much sound.

I duno any thoughtss.

Just a thought, your cat(s) will also soak up a lot of the sound coming from the motor. I have an '06 2wd Duratec w/ a Dynomax straight-through race bullet right that dumps right before the rear tire. It sounds decent, but isn't really "loud" in any sense of the word. It's definitely not as loud as my catless, straight-piped, naturally-aspirated diesel VW, which is loud in every sense of the word.

The 1/4" increase in exhaust pipe diameter won't have that dramatic of an effect on your exhaust tone. Remember, flowmasters are still mufflers, so it will still be "quiet" to an extent. If you want that stupid-loud sound, just straight-pipe it. Just my .02

I have a heartthrob exhaust kit. It is a cat back system, SI/DO. the nice thing is it will work on reg. cabs or supercabs. The system doesn't use standard muffler, it uses two resonator style mufflers at the back under the rear bumper. It has a very nice rumble, but it is a 4cyl. rumble. i think it sounds good. Not a lot of interior resonance either. the system uses 2 1/4 pipe and with the hedman header that i installed it flows pretty good.

yea i put my flowmaster 40 series 3 chamber on my truck now. it sounds good, but it doesnt sound like a v8. u want a v8 sound, put a v8 in it. i guess if u want it louder get the pro flow or the flowmaster 40 series 2 chamber. mine still has the nice rumble to it, since it has no tailpipes, dumped it out after muffler. sounds WAY better than stock. but not so much as a v8....

I had the 40 series put on my 4.0 Auto, and it sounds OK. When I first start it up, it sounds pretty good and if I didn't have a rev regulator it would probably sound good when I reved it up. But going down the road, you'd never know I have an un-stock muffler.

Take the exit pipe off of the muffler and leave it dumped! Then you will get some rumble!!

i finally got a flowmaster 40 series put on and i love it, i have a single in dual out with it just ending under the cab, but im gona get these tips that point down, but it sounds better then i thought
