Flooded my truck and need help!

I just did the same last week to my 99 4.0

Hey guys, i have a 96 4L ranger, 2wd supercab.
Got out of hand last night and found a puddle that was too deep.
The engine cut out and i could restart it, actually coudln't even turn it over
so i am think that i hydro locked the engine, so i pulled the plugs turned it over and put new plugs in. Well it fired right up but i have a knocking now, and i am thinking a bent valve now. The ticking did get better with maybe 20 km of driving but it is very difficult to get into gear and shifts harder then it used to. So i have two problems here

1. valve problems and
2. something in the tranny, should i be dumping the tranny oil? and it is possible that when the truck sat for 2 hours water got into the clutch assembly and is interfering with the clutch/tranny?

thanks guys

I towed mine home pulled the upper intake off modified my shop vac and made some cool air blaster setups and went to town. I had mud in my cylinders and plenty.. use diesle and starting fluid to fluid to flush. I still got water and pine needles on second oil change. I recomend using frams super oil filter with the anti backflow valven you will see why on second change. Spend plenty of time and you got better chance. mine actuallyh runs better; the tick stopped and check engine light gone.Im going on 600 miles since the mudwash and went wheelin yesterday no problems great oil pressure, good to go . dont forget gear boxes and trani.. dont listen too much to the " throw it away and get a new one " ...I heard it all but mine is fine some guys just like swappen motors.GOOD LUCK!!!

on a 1995-00 OHV engine any 1995-00 engine will do as a replacement,
though you may have to move your sensors onto the new engine...

DO be sure to disassemble the engine and rescue your trophy :)

I ALWAYS get my shop trophy... have several on the shelf.

And I agree with holyford. If the engine is going to be replaced anyway, drive the bastard until it dies. Might run for years ticking. You can check www.car-part.com for engines- find a low mileage replacement when it finally gives up the ghost.

Alright thanks for all the advice guys! I have changed the oils again and am still driving it. the tick seemed to have gotten better? is it possible things worked in a little? anyways i have put another 2000 km on since my little episode and still running strong...... I plan on driving it till she quits any bets on the millage till she does lol?

i like that way of doing things, if i need one someday i just as well run this one into the ground :icon_thumby: but like i said it still has oil pressure and runs good with all its power? these engines are pretty tuff
