Floaty steering at high speed

Highly unlikely it is the box.

What type of joints on the shaft?

Do you have the spec sheet from the alignment? The geometry is solid.

Actual toe, caster, and camber... are the critical points if all of the joint and bushings are good.
I have a Borgeson shaft and it is tight AF with U-joints on both ends.

Alignment numbers...lost the page. Gonna schedule another one with a guy in town that specializes in custom applications and I'll get back to you.

I like 5 to 6 degrees caster min...

Mine is no where near that! My guy set it to factory specs I believe. I think we may have an answer hear. I'll report back when I get this re-done

I just did a quick google and found 1500 and up. Have to do some more research
Oh, u pull junkyard. Volvo forums to find which models. All mazda 3 have a version as well.

Just called the shop and they said it is at 5 now. Would a few degrees more make a difference? He said he had trouble getting that much. I used these bushings MOOG K80109 (+4).

Been doing some research and some folks say they get floating steering with deep void MTs for a few 1000 miles at first. They are maxxis rzr MTs (no not the UTV kind) i wonder if thays it

Some tires have stiffer sidewalls than others. So that can be a factor, along with inflation pressure.

Any time you alter a vehicle, it is likely to act and feel differently. Bigger tires, suspension lift, body lift, different bushings, different shocks., etc. The key is to make sure the changes you make are well designed so they work properly and safely. Most important is to ensure you don't have worn out components like bushings and ball joints, steering shaft components (like rag joints) and whatever. When troubleshooting an issue like this, I would recommend;

1. Check for worn or broken components.
2. Check for things that are out of adjustment.
3. If all that is good, then what is the last thing you changed before noticing that it "doesn't feel or act right"?

Tires for sure will wiggle....brand new msr,s suck for 4k.

Yeah...minimum 5 to 6. So if there is more than it may be worth trying.

So you are there....lower radius arms a bit of off set joints depending on what arms you have.

I've put around 4k miles on my dick cepek trail country EXPs. Still as floaty as the day the alignment was done (immediately following lift)

I guess I've become numb. I'm running a 6" suspension lift, 35" BFG MT'S and no anti-sway bars. I wheel it and drive it down country roads and highways to get there and back. It's not as tight as a Ferrari. But I never feel like it's dangerous, either. Probably a good bit more floaty than the OP's truck.

Well....20 miles in my truck....especially with the 42,s on a cold morning.......and when he gets back in his....he will think it is a Ferrari...

But I ran heavy on toe and caster with the ttb and it was decent.

Can't speak for op, but I'd say mine with it's very mild lift is going to be dangerous when the snow and ice come. Mine feels almost like I'm steering with rubber bands. Sort of reminds me of when the idler arm went out on my old Hilux, but instead of 'clunking' from side to side[of the bushing], it's a floaty drift. Generally imprecise, which is a no-go on ice.

I'm just following along... gonna be dealing with similar issues in the near future.

My Ranger back in the day with a 6" Skyjacker lift and 33's was very stable on the highway. Long box wheelbase helped a lot I think - I put that lift and those tires on a Bronco II and it was a very different animal. I don't think "floaty" is a good word for mine, "tippy" maybe. The guy who bought it from me took it on a 12 hour drive to Minneapolis, said it was very sketchy the whole time. No sway bars on it though.

I need to try some more toe on my solid axle conversion. I think I was running somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 but it wanders all over on the highway.
