Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure that I need to replace my flex plate. Took her out for a spin, and everything was fine UNTIL I hit the highway.
A couple of issues...
First of all, when I switched from 2WD to 4WD high, then 4WD low (electrical switch) to get off an icy patch, while the gear switch was delayed, it eventually switched over, but now when I went to go back to 2WD, it hesitated, and now BOTH high and low indicator lights are on on the dash.
No biggie, I thought it will eventually shut off, but no.
Now for the highway issue. I was up to about 50 mph, but the gears wouldn't switch over. almost had the pedal to the metal, and 3k RPM, but revving high without switching gears.
THEN, on my way back home, the knocking started. TOCK TOCK TOCK TOCK......
168,000 miles
oil and transmission fluids topped up and clean
overall no other issues
In other fourms (yes, I read through looking for answers first), similar issues say to replace the flex plate spacer at the same time.
I found a Pioneer flexplate on Rock Auto, but I can't find the spacer.
Can someone share a link or source for the spacer?
Is the 2WD/4WD issue common? Is it just an electrical switch thing I need to replace?
And I understand that I'll need to have the transmission pulled off to get to the flex plate. I will have to have a mechanic do this, so what am I looking at as far as cost and labour goes? A local place quoted me $1300 for everything (and thats only IF it's the spacer issue).
Muchos Gracias!
