Flex ?'s

Once you start to sway some if there is no pre stress the vehicle sways until there is enough stress from the sway to stop. Which defeats the purpose of a anti sway bar. The bar has Flex if you don't take the flex of the bar out before the sway starts, the sway will flex the bar some before the bar pushes down on the other wheel.

At least thats my understanding of how it works. Ive never been able to take a anti sway bar off without letting off some of the pressure.

What vehicle are you refering to?

The bar has "flex" in it because it is not pinned to the frame. It just floats in two bushings attached to the frame.

I just removed the end links in my drive way and turn the sway bar up. It does give an improvement in the front sus while flexing (i tested it in my ditch) then i put the bar back on. You dont have to jack the truck up or anything you just have to crawl under the front of the truck. :icon_cheers:

hmmm.... what was it that I said in this thread earlier?? I guess I must know these 98+ trucks then...

I know, thanks, I just wanted to say it so eveyrbody knew it was true.

no definate plans yet im going to wait and see what the weathers going to be like cause i also ride my dirtbike up there and I dont want to be an Ice sicle

Now make life one step easier for the future - quick release that biatch! :icon_welder:

Don't ask me - plenty of threads that have good info here already. :icon_thumby:

Removing the sway bar will help a bit. Other than that there just isn't much suspension travel there to flex.
+1. There is not as much travel in the 98+ IFS as the older TTB setup.

there isnt much travel but every little bit helps since last time i went i put a nice dent in the torsion key skid plate and draged the transfer case once :shok: (went out and got a skid plate for it the next week) so ill take everything i can get :D
I've been to busco but its not that much fun on a bike you really need a 4wheeler.

I've got a 4 wheeler but it's only 2wd... :( Let me know if you're going to Uwharrie or not and what day. I'm going to do the intake manifold gasket tomorrow.

Where did you get your skid plate?. I need to get one and I have no Fab skills so making on is a no go

I've got a spare Tcase skid I could sell ya if you've got no junkyards near ya...PM me if interested.

not to impose on Fx4wannabe01 but if you go toy our local ford dealer the service department sells them. Mine was $35 I think. But the front skidplate and gas tank skid plate are incredibily over priced i think the front was around $300 :dunno:

I'm with FX4. In fact, my swaybars are in the floor of my garage, and have been there for a couple years. I used to disconnected my sway bar endlinks before wheeling, and then put them back before driving home. However, I got lazy one day and just left them unhooked for the drive home. I personally think the truck rides better without them. Frees the suspension up, and keeps the truck from dancing across rough roads. It's probably not a problem for you extended cab guys, but my short wheelbase had me all over some of our worse for wear backroads. The front end went where I steered, and the back end bounced where it wanted. Pulling off the sway bars helped out alot. Sure, it leans over in the turns, but who cares? It's a 4x4 Ranger, not a sports car. More flex off road and a softer ride on road. Leave the 60mph hairpins to the Saleen drivers and you'll have no problems.

I still carve corners.... at least I try to anyways. lol!
