problem is a clock spring behind the airbag.
its held in by 3 screws.
a clock spring is associated with the Airbag Sliding Contact, it purpose is to continuously transfers electrical signals from the driver air bag module to the air bag sensor.
To access it, remove the steering wheel and the plastic steering column trim. It will also have a couple of wiring connectors that extend down about 8-10 inches. BEFORE REMOVING OR RE-INSTALLING THE AIRBAG, MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WAIT ABOUT 10 MINUTES FOR THE BACKUP BATTERY TO DEPLETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im sure someone will chip in and confirm, but thats what your problem should be. unfortunatly they cant be repaired, and are about a $100 part. the older models used to have trouble with this.
