Was hauling scrap yesterday, going up a hill, made a shift at 5k and smelled belt. It's been whining more than usual, almost a growling a bit, so I figured the end was near. Just shy of 200K miles on the original pump. It just had to do it during the busiest time of the year on the day before I have to go to Buffalo.

Took it to the shop (I just don't have time to do it now), apparently I also have a wheel bearing problem too (part of the reason I don't go to shops...It just passed inspection), but the pump is all set.

Maybe now people won't hear me coming a half mile away.

How much did they charge, parts & labor?

And... did you get the ALL-METAL HEAVY-DUTY '79 T-BIRD bullet-proof super-pump?... lol. I guess if you got 200k out of the original, no need to get exotic.

PS: Is your high-pressure hose original too?

cool!

now if my factory pump would just die...

LOL... I know, makes you want to do the swap just because IT SEEMS SO RIGHT for a "Ford Tough" truck, eh? The second I saw that pic, I refexively thought "Now THAT is what a PS pump should look like, especially on a TRUCK!"... :icon_thumby:

Unfortunately, my plastic-fantastic is only slightly whiny, and just needs a good bleedin'...

id say mine is average whiny...despite being run dry several times.

i wonder if those t-bird pumps still shoot ATF out all over your engine bay if you turn the wheels with the motor off? thats my biggest complaint on the plastic-fantastic.

I think i would have to agree on that one....

I have 375,000 km on my original pump, with very little noise...
