Finally did some exterior repairs...

That makes sense.... except the part as to why the hell they would crush 98 and older vehicles. There would be some serious issues if that happened here. Cash for clunkers (another really swell idea by Obama's administration) blowing the motors in all cars that were traded in.

I will tell you what... this video just tears me up inside. Nothing wrong with this little hot rod.

That's terrible.....I HATE the fact that this happened. What the hell did we really benefit from it?....That Mustang held up for a long time though.

As far as the beds go, I hear you on that Mark_88. They're pretty rusty up here in NJ. If you do find one, It's a short bed or they want way too much.

I'm buying my fenders soon for about 80 bucks shipped to my door. If it wasn't for the roll pan I welded into the bed, I would probably consider a cheap bed if I ever found it. However, I think I smooth it all out.

Sorry for the hijack Mark...

But there was an article I read just a couple of months ago talking about how bad that program was for the environment. As a nation we would have been better off both environmentally and financially if that program never took flight. I would be a lot more lenient had the program required some loyalty to the nation it was attempting to benefit, but instead we traded American cars for Foreign cars.

Hijack? When has a thread not been hijacked...lol

Yeah, that always seemed like a ploy to get the old cars off the road and to make people worry about the environment...

Want to read something really upsetting???? I don't have a link, but about 20 years ago I read somewhere that there were half a billion vehicles outside of NA that were not following any kind of emission control and the biggest polluters that were once in NA moved their plants to places that couldn't give a flying fig about the environment...out went our production jobs...

And the worst part is...35 years ago I remember driving into Toronto and seeing the smog in the air around the city...you could actually see it...and I was hopeful when all the pollution controls were being put into place...

The other day I was driving into Toronto and guess what...the smog was still there...or it came back...what a waste~

Oh, yes...the main reason being in Canada the junk yards are crushing anything older than 1998...so the parts availability has become an issue. I would pretty much have to buy a whole truck or put on a bed from a later model and they just want way too much money for those now.

Its not specifically they are crushing anything older than 98. They crush shit newer than that too.

What you have to keep in mind is that nobody is a JUNK YARD anymore, but rather they are all salvage yards or recyclers. They make money off the scrap steel cubes they are turning cars into. Selling parts is part of the business, but the scrap is where the real profit margins come from.

How long a car lasts in the yard is a function of a few factors - age is one of them, but its not the deciding factor. Typically how long a vehicle has been on the property is a bigger factor than the actual age of the vehicle. Condition is also a big concern - ones that are in bad accidents typically get crushed quicker than ones that are in nice looking shape.

Each yard only has so much space, and as they get new inventory, they have to move out the old inventory. I know for a fact one of the local places buys upwards of 250 vehicles a week from the insurance company.

Yes, I can appreciate the limitations in JY space and having to clear out the old to bring in the new...but the one I was dealing with in 2004 or so when I started putting this Ranger together had plenty of space and still does. I moved away from that area a few years ago and dropped in to find they still had a few older Rangers...but no boxes and no 2.3s...

At one time they had two rows of older Mustangs and plenty of distributor 2.3s...in fact, I got my replacement throttle cable from them recently and had it modified to fit my carb setup...but they certainly didn't have the selection they had 9 years ago...and they even scrapped out all their Tempos...that I used the window winders for my Ranger...just wanted to pick up a couple of spares but there were none to be found...dang...they are much better than the stock Ranger winders...:bawling:
