Finally got the beans out!
First off I had my soybeans sprayed for weeds last summer. Local co-op did a horrible job. Killed about a fourth of my soybeans and about the same on the weeds. I had to replant quite a bit of it.
So we had to wait until frost to finally help quite a bit of them to finish turning so they would dry and it took a really good frost to kill all the grass.
Combine needed some repairs, then dad got sick, then I got sick, then dad got sick again. Then it snowed. Then it got real cold. Then we got like an inch of rain and would nothing would dry out. Then in the middle of February... the stars aligned.

.
It wasn't long before the siren song of the ol' 404 at 2500rpm sitting beside me started working its magic...
When it was good it was good.
When it wasn't... it wasn't. The cleaner patch ahead is where I had to replant in the above picture, knowing it was going to be lagging I split rowed them to help maybe add a little yield. I also wonder if that helped them canopy and fight off the weeds on their own.
Saturday night it was getting dark and I suppose the dew was starting to set it, and I plugged it up. I heard the engine lay into and was reaching for the foot clutch to stop the machine and let it digest... and the slip clutch let go.
I can vouch that a John Deere 6600 combine makes a miserable hay baler.
Then I went to pull the wagon up into the barnlot so it didn't run away on me and was reminded that my borrowed rear tire has neither a wheel weight or fluid like my other tire. That was a bit of a pucker moment sliding back down the hill.
I am so glad to have that miserable year of farming behind me.
