So...either I'm missing something or something isn't right. So I had to now replace the fan....and to get the clutch off I had to turn it CCW, to install it I had to turn it CW....Now this brings one of two notes to mind.

I'm pretty sure my engine rotates CW...so would this possible cause the clutch to unwind itself?
And when looking for a fan I was given a choice of hayden reverse rotation or super cooling...I did have the heavy duty clutch put on when I replace the engine assembly.

So if the 4.0 turns CW, and the belt system is reverse rotation.... wouldn't that make the fan clutch spin CCW?

Serp belt fan clutches have normal threads on them because while the crank does turn clockwise the water pump, being on the other side of the belt, runs reverse to the crankshaft.

On a V-belt engine everything rotates the same way because it is all on the same side of the belts, so there you would be right.

So do I need

FOUR SEASONS Part # 36882
Clutch Fan For Reverse Rotation Severe Duty Thermal Fan Clutch; w/ Max Cooling

or

w/4.0L V6 engine; w/super cooling; Fan blade (Only 4 Remaining)

I not a fan of plastic fans and was trying to find a metal one. They tried sellinf me a Flex-A-Lite fan, but people told me not to get that one, also something about a fan spacer.

Super cooling or severe duty is the same thing. I strongly suggest using a Hayden fan clutch. The one I got two years ago was still made in the USA. O'Reilly even matched the Autozone Chinese price. I had the Chinese piece in my Ranger for about 3 days and it never quit making noise.

Also, if the flex-a-lite is a flex fan, run away. They take away horsepower.

Flex fans suck, the plastic ones are not so bad.

I like the plastic ones because they are stiff enough to not cause a big drag or hurt cooling performance, but flexible enough to not break or stay bend when you bang 'em into the core support while pulling the engine.

Good point.

I picked up a Hayden Clutch for $69 something at Orileys. Works great sounds good and runs strong. The stock fan has some cracking so I feel I should replace it just because...

Meh, I ran my stock fan on my original 2.9 for 5 years looking like it was about to fly apart.

Are they still Made in the USA?

The one I got says "Made in the USA" on it so good on them, I like locally made products "most" seem to be better quality and I hear good things about Hayden

I'm now of the opinion tho that even outside my one bad thread, some Individuals are now just neg repping all my posts even tho I'm being helpful. I went from one +13 rep to -11 over night. Looks like I'm gonna have to hand out free cnc'ed auto hub cams to get that back up lol

Good to know. I had one of their fan clutches in my Mustang for over 10 years, but I went electric now. It never have me any issues.
