Does anyone know the stock fan with fan clutch CFM? I put an Electra-Fan on my car, and I am running warmer. The fan could be under powered. Any info would be great.

Thanks

i'm not sure of the cfm on the clutch fan but i use a e fan from a taurus on my ranger with a 4.0 and haven't had any problems with it.
maybey your thermostat is sticking

The stock mechanical fan pushes more air than any efan you can fit in there.

this is true, keep in mind the stock fan is powered by a v6, and the electric one is powered by a puney electric motor. Yes, i know that doesnt mean too much, you have can have an electric fan that has higher rpms then the engine driven fan will achieve....buts it more reliable to stick with the belt driven one and it does flow more then enough air to cool the engine when functioning correctly (99% of the time it does, even if the clutch fails, it usally fails so the fan is always at full speed, its makes a truck very noisy, but you still wont overheat)

I put an electric fan in my bII, it was a flex-a-lite fan i ripped off a ranger in the junkyard. it failed and almost killed my engine off roading, good thing i saw the temp gauge rising, after that the belt fan was all i would use.

Thanks for the info, I to put a flex-a-lite fan on. I put the stock fan back on, and I am still running warn, around 200 to 210, and with the AC on I run warmer than that. I just rebuild the motor, new everything, new radiator from explorer, water pump. Does the computer sending unit, effect anything? With out looking at the fan, I think it is a 10 blade, I have a auto trans… Any more info would be great

Thanks

I'd go out and get a radiator off a 4.0 Explorer. That'll keep that little 2.9 happy. Also, what degree thermostat do you have in it?

I read this post in passing this morning before I had to get out the door.
What I can tell you about efans from Ford cars is this. There are 2 different sizes of single fans on Taurus/Sable, 15" and 16" respectably, they are both two speed and when setup with a $20 thermal switch, won't start till the switch completes the circuit. That's common knowledge, as is the fact that you should either setup your fan on a switch or to the request circuit of your air conditioner, or both, to allow for use of high speed.
If you can find a Lincoln or a couple others with a 4.6, you can possibly score a 17" efan that is also 2 speed, but when it kick into high you see a huge drop on your amp gauge. It will pull nearly 100 amps. It is also said to flow over 4500 cfm on low and over 6000 on high, these are not meant to be accurate cfm's, they were stated on another forum. But having seen the fan, it is huge and could very well flow what was stated.
Not all Ford efans are created equal, the 15" is supposed to flow what a 16" Fex-a-lite does with both on high, the 16" Ford efan is supposed to be the equivalent of the 17" Flex-a-lite. The 17" Ford efan was not compared.

i have a 2400cfm derale and it cools just fine.

Does any body have a tauras fan with the thick radiator if that fit it seems like it would be the cats meow.

I think the radiator is too thick to install the efan.

Found the how to for the 17" efan.
I stand corrected on some of my statements.
Follow this link:

And it really depends on the number of blades on the stock fan as to whether it will flow more than an efan.

Ray

WRONG.....it depends on the amount of power available to drive it, the blade area, and the blade pitch.....no e-fan can compete with the mechanical
fan.

For high heat load applications, you will always find a mechanical fan, NOT an
e-fan.
