i've been trying to find a thread on this and no luck... is it possible to hook the amp and sub up to my factory 6 disc, MP3 radio?

Yep. You just need to buy line out converters that convert your speaker wires to rca outputs to hook up to the amp. Or get an amp with speaker level inputs. I am using my factory radio with a 4 channel amp, a pair of components, a pair of 6x8's, and a single 10" sub as of this weekend.

My other car is using these with the factory head unit and just bought some so i can do the Ranger.
Or, like stated above, you can get an amp with speak level inputs
