My credo
What's the worst that could happen?
My son-in-law bought a 2000 F350 at an auction, It has a V8 Triton, 4x4, automatic trans. I had the pleasure of driving it home :(. The shift linkage was for sh*t, detents on the column were barely there: P, R, N, D, 2, 1.
Manually going thru the gears, 1 worked solid. Shifting up to 2 it would stumble on acceleration. If I backed off a little it would catch and accelerate with no issues. Shifting up into D was like going into neutral. Trans fluid was good and not burned or smelly.
I know we have to tighten up the linkage to make sure it is connected properly, but I was wondering if this particular trans has any sort reputation.
Any thoughts at all are appreciated. He's a Dodge Ram guy so he needs help :ROFLMAO:

Thanks,
R

That should be a 4R100 or 110 if memory serves, I think they're an ok trans but like anything things happen... could be a plugged filter or weak seal on one of those piston deals (I don't remember what they're called...) or a bad solenoid, but the linkage isn't helping anything...

Thanks for the response Scott. We'll get into it this weekend and see what the linkage is doing and then go from there.

Yeah, I'd pull the pan, change the filter, maybe even drop the valve body and look for chunks, there's some sliding dealybobs and check balls scattered around there that need to do their thing to drive right... I have a friend that probably knows exactly what it needs but start with the easy stuff...
