F250 super Duty 6.0

I was told this same thing by another 6.0 owner who had his engine go ka-put... the Ford dealership told him that the 6.0 was an engine that had to be ran hard...

It's true. From day one the 6.0 trucks that we have seen coming in with stuck turbos, blown head gaskets, bad injectors, etc, aren't the ones with the 5th wheel in the bed and the tires burnt off, they were the ones with car seats in the back and DVD players hanging off the back of the seats.

I don't doubt it...

Well gentlemen, I told the dealership to go ahead with installing a new 6.0 motor. It comes with a 2yr,unlimited milage gurantee. I asked about a egr cooler (?) and they agreed it would be beneficial. It would not turn the engine light on but would register an error on the computer!

I will keep youall advised as it progresses.

Unless you get a nearly free mint complete donor truck I can almost guarentee it will be cheaper to repair the 6.0L then swap a 7.3L. Here's my thoughts, a few to choose from in order I'd do them:

-Build a bitch'n 6.0L shortblock, head studs, fire rings, lower comp. pistons, balanced rotating assembly etc and swap all other parts from your current 6.0L

Swap a cummins, reliable simple power.....change oil and filters...never touch it again after taking care of the KDP

-Find cheap rebuilt 6.0L to swap in

Also do an EGR delete and that would be the greatest 6.0L

or www.destroked.com :icon_rofl:

6.0's can be darn good engines and mod for mod will rip a 7.3 inside out.

I have heard of creampuff 6.0's turbos getting gunked up, overboosting and blowing out the headgaskets though. Diesels ain't made to putt.

were you laughing when you typed that?

No, seriously....they can be built into awesome engines.

i'm gonna trust him on this one. ^^^

You don't use that engine right. If you want to keep the truck, and don't want to blow up another engine, but do want to keep babying it, swap in a 5.4L.

If you don't want to do to gas, put another 6.0 in, build it up, make sure you get the teflon coated turbo, and then beat it like a red-headed step child.

How did you know I was a redhead? Seriously I bought the truck just to pull the travel trailer. Is the teflon turbo a stock item or? Have to let the service tech know monday.

Thanks

Well I picked up my truck from the dealer 10-29-10. What a difference! The dealer found a exhaust valve caught in the turbo so that was replaced as well. They checked out the trans, drained fluid did not find any metal in the pan so OK'd it for use. The EGR cooler was blown according to the job sheet and replaced. I don't what modifications the later engine has but it sure feels more powerful and responsive.

ive worked at a local ford dealership for 5 years and we had a lot of 6.0s mainly headgaskets and head bolts alot of people dont realize how hard they are to repair, to replace head gaskets and to put head studs in you have to remove or just lift the cab and if you do just the headbolts instead of studs the truck will be back in the shop in another 50000 mile, as far as a 7.3 goes they are real reliable engines they dont use the eletronic turbos as the 6.0s do and have alot more reliablity, thats if you have the trans to support the 7.3 i say unless you plan on building the motor or just beating the crap out of the truck keep the 6.0 it will save you a ton of money in the long run, and if your planning on build a 7.3 go with a early model block i would prefer around a 96 they have the forged internals unlike the 99-03s

02-03 7.3s had forged rods too, it was the 2000-early 01's that had the PMRs
Check out powerstrokenation.com or powerstroke.org and you will find out anything you wanna know, good bad or ugly lol

Thanks, I did some reading on powerstrokenation and will be taking steps to have the ,"BULLETPROOF" oil changes completed on the engine right after Thanksgiving. Everything works right I will be adding a better transmission cooler at the same time also.

Thanks for your, Heads-Up I sure do not want to replace the engine again once is enough!

Very true. They are the same people that kinda freak out when I get in their "baby" and full throttle the engine to 4000 rpm! LOL ! Then they don't believe me when I tell them that it can do that all day long and like it.

Take that damn K&N air filter off, check to make sure the compression is good, install EGR cooler delete kit and new set of injectors. It'll run hard all day. If you want to run a programer, install stud kit.

Speaking of K&N air filters....

I saw a great one the other day. 07 or 08 6.0. Had an Airaid system on it that, aside from the conical filter that is probably more restrictive than the factory one, it was physically and functionally identical to the factory intake system.

Makes me wonder how much that joker spent to not gain a darn thing.

The worst part of K&N's on a diesel is that once they are plugged up, the diesel will keep on sucking through the filter and pull the dirt with it into the engine. Diesel dude driving the truck won't know anything is wrong.
On a gasoline engine, once the filter is plugged, engine power drops dramatically and the driver at least knows to get it looked at - or check and clean the filter.

Field service engineer voided an engine warrenty because it had an aftermarket filter kit on it.

Makes it mighty pricey when the truck won't start and you gotta pay for it out of pocket.
