I was wondering what tranny the 4.0 in a 97 Explorer and in a 5.0 97 Explorer please.

that would be a 4R70W for the V8 and either a 4R44E or 5R55E for the 4.0. (both were available)
edit: woops, thats the 4R55E and the 5R55E that came behind the 4.0L.
to any that saw the link to the tranny guide from explorerforum.com, please disregard it. i looked closer and there are numerous errors.

thought the 4r55e was behind the I4 and 3.0 and the 4.0 got the 5r55E

the 4R44E was the one for the 2.3 and 3.0. the 4R55E and 5R55E were found behind the 4.0.
