Explorer and Ranger hitches the same?

I want to put a receiver on my 95 ranger, and my sister doesn't use the receiver on her 96 explorer. Would it be possible to grab the explorer receiver and bolt it up to my ranger? I've tried looking at different hitch manufacturers but can't seem to tell if they are the same or not.

don't even offer that advice a bumper ball is ****ing stupid im sry but it is. towing off the bumper is the worth thing you can do imo. it scared the hell of me when i see people doing on the highway.

It's engineered for it...I don't see a problem with it as long as you stick with the weight ratings.

Thats why you pay attention to the ratings and adhere to the guideline, it's not F-ing stupid....it's a perfectly safe and cheap way of towing LESS weight then a reciever style hitch would be used for.

I've towed around 2k off the bumper no problem. One of the reasons I want a reciever though is to level the trailer better. One is just a little too low to be level, and my little one almost puts the back into the ground on inclines. I'll add this to my list of stuff to grab on my next junkyard trip.

the only real difference between the receiver hitch and the bumper is generally a receiver style is rated for more weight. The biggest problem with trailers is people overlook the tongue weight, they always try to load as far forward as they can.

I would rather see a truck towing slightly over the rated weight on the bumper with proper tongue weight than have receiver rated at 5k towing 2500lbs with 1500 of it on the tongue, now thats just pure stupid.

My preference is a receiver hands down. Mostly just because 95% of loads ill need to pull are over the bumper ratings. Also being able to switch hitches in seconds is very handy

A little off topic but about how much can one expect to pay for a junkyard receiver and what are the bolt sizes/locations to remove it?

Should not be over $100, but you will need new hardware as they are usually grade 8 bolts torqued over 100ftlbs, plus the frame nuts will be near impossible to recover from in the frame. (or am I thinking of my van????)
