I am thinking of putting a exploder axle in my 98 ranger and I would like to increase the carring capacity in the bed while I am at it, but don't want to kill the ride. I have researched the forum and ride comfort is not discussed much. I don't care so much, but its pretty hard on the little lady.

Stiffer springs like Explorer leafs ride better than stock ranger leaves that
allow the truck to bottom.

I like the way my 87 rides with Explorer springs in the rear. I would compare it to a Sportrac. And I can still haul whatever I need to without fear of the ass end on the ground.

I'm new to Rangers...do the Explorer spring bolt right up? Do they provide any lift or just additional load capacity?

Thanks

On rangers I've personally seen 2" of lift, on my B2 I got maybe 1/2", and I lost it when I removed the overload, which is fine because I still haven't put my sploder coils in because my bushings don't have enough to align it back up so I need new camber bushings.

Yo,
It is my understanding that Chevy springs can be softer because of their length, especially if you remove the overload (if its off a 4x4), and/or mix in some ranger/explorer leaves in the process.

The Chevy springs are not bolt-in though, you have to relocate the front hangers forward 6" to run them.

The Ex leafs bolt in (after you turn the centering pin over)

Compared to NEW stock ranger springs the explorer springs are onl good for
only about 3/4"

the thing is that used explorer springs are generally FAR less fatigued and sagged than stock ranger springs, so when you take out ranger springs that are pretty much "whipped" and replace them with explorer springs yo typically see 2 or 2-1/2".

the other thing is that USED explorer springs are what they are and you generally don't expect them to settle at all, they already DID on the explorer you removed them from.
