exhuast stack

Ok, so the exhuast on my ranger is pretty danm rusty, and might need to be replaced in the future.

I was thinking of running an exhuast stack up the side of the bed (NOT up through the bed) with a red cherry bomb as a muffler and one of those rain flap things (i dont know its actual name lol) on the top of the pipe.


Anyone know if this will get me pulled over or not in the state of florida? Im guessing not becuase i saw an isuzu rodeo driving around time to time with one of those flex exhuast pipes you can buy at advance literally just fastened to the rear pillar of the cab with pipe clamps, ending at the top of the roof. The guys also has a snorkle on it...im guessing he takes it in deep water sometimes...but the job he did looks horrible.

The main 3 reason i dont want to cut through the bed to put the pipe is one, i have a plastic bed liner, which tends to melt or catch fire when exposed near a hot exhuast pipe. Two, i have one of those hard covers for the bed, which means i would need to cut that to make room for the pipe...and it also has plastic on it. And three, i have a four wheeler that takes up the entire bed, from the cab to just behind the tailgate. And i think if i ran the pipe up the bed, it would get in the way of the front tire, and possible cuase the tire itself to melt/catch fire/explode.

What your thoughts on this crazy idea?

I am not a fan of these stacks. Nobody I know would ever add one to their trucks. We all think they look stupid unless you are a tractor pull racer. Why not put a real nice system on your truck? You can do so much with a dual setup and make it sound really nice and look really nice at the same time.

why not just get the new intermediate pipe, muffler, and tail pipe that belong on the truck? by the time you get done trying to custom fit/ make a stack youll have as much money wrapped up in it as just doing it correctly in the first place?

Don't put stacks on a gas pickup... if you can't blow black smoke out of your stacks, then they don't belong on your pickup... They only look good on trucks if they go through the bed, they look horrible when you run them on the outside of the bed... especially on a truck as small as a ranger.

It's called a tractor flapper and if I were you I would just make myself a nice loud side dump exhaust.

Stacks on the outside of any bed would look stupid at best. How about a set of chrome side pipes if you can find them? But you may have a problem with them being too long. Greg

My vote would be to do a side dump and do the piping and muffler in stainless steel. When I get around to fixing my Ranger that's my plan (truck also needs a radiator, core support, tires and some other work).

The only thing that stacks look good on is a big rig or a tractor.
