hey guys,

so ive been having this ongoing problem with my ranger.. well not really a problem but more of an extreme annoyance. whenever im driving down the road, it doesnt matter if i hit a pot hole, speed bump, or even run over the smallest rock. whatever creates my suspension to cycle up and down there is an awefully loud squeek coming from the front right section of my rig.

i have tried lubing up bushing with silicone products/doused with wd-40(water dispalcement, 40th attempt lol)
ive replaced shocks(needed 'em anyways)

btw the sound will do it at a stand still if i cycle the bumper up and down through its range of motion.

please any advice fellas, the squeek is driving me nuts and the awkward stares are getting old too!!!

thanks for any help!!

just got to thinking could it be torsion bars?

By bushings did you mean the front sway bar bushings? The ones on my 05 did this, I took them out, cleaned them and the bar up and lubed them up with some silicone grease.

was it pretty loud?? loud enough to be heard from 100 feet away??

well i sprayed pretty liberally in that area but, ill try taking the sway bar down tomorrow and cleanin them bitches up

thanks man!

Yea mine was a pretty loud squeak. Try that out and let us know.

Have you checked your ball joints?

Mine just started doing this on the way home this morning , I came here to get ideas.
I crawled under and didnt see anything obvious :icon_confused:
I'll check it out when it gets light out

I found that the lower left ball joint was dry , The boot has a crack.
The noise was pretty loud, enough to hear from blocks away.. It was terrible even turning the wheel at a stop or bouncing on the fender.
I took a grease injector needle on the end of a grease gun and filled all of the ball joints and tie rod ends with waterproof grease, Then I wrapped the cracked boot with "Rescue Tape" which is a very elastic rubbery tape that stretches and sticks to itself and has no adhesive.
I also inserted the needle and injected grease into all of the bushings on the control arms and stabilizer bar
No more sqeeks after a 30 mile test

I hope you are actually replacing your ball joints now that you've found the source of the noise. Guaranteed they'll have some play in them after all that.
excessive squeeks

It's a squeak. Welcome to the Ford family.

Yep, yep
though last nite was the first squeek , the tires are showing no uneven wear they are wearing amazingly well for commuting up and down a 5.000 ft mountain, no odd behavior in steering whatsoever, no excess play in the steering wheel and no pulling on lines

But it does have 140,000 and a failure could be catastrophic

at least now I feel like I can hold off long enough for the snow to melt out of the driveway before i do it because I don't have a garage to pull into
I will change them all
thanks again
