Ever seen a Backhoe do this?


I saw one do that when the UPRR was replacing the tembers on an existing track. I saw it climb down and reload the bulk car, climb up on top of a car and ride down the track to unload. The driver had some that clanked.
 
Can't say that I've seen that before, but always wondered if they could do something like that...now I know they can...
 
That is neat but... did they move the train with it up there? From the angle I think you should be able to see the crossing in the last picture??

It actually looks like the train is moving or was moved...the purpose, I'd imagine, was to spread dirt along the side of the tracks...or maybe it was a secret government project to get rid of radioactive soil in a place where humans don't travel too often...hmmmm....
 
That's different and pretty damn cool.
 
As said earlier they added the necessary brackets to allow that to happen. It's cool but not totally amazing that a piece of equipment is able to pick up it's own weight. Somebody either got creative or drunk when they needed to unload a hopper car.
