Hey guys, I recently swapped a 4.0L from a 94' explorer into my 94' ranger. The truck rus great. The only problem I am having now is terrible fuel consumption. The only difference I found between the original engine and this one is the fact that the explorer engine has a EGR valve on it. I left the valve on and just didnt connect any vaccum to it to prevent it from opening. My question is about how the EGR works on that year motor. Is it vaccum based only or will it open with engine temperature as well? I am wondering if the presence of an EGR is making my gas mileage so bad. It is possible that the valve is so gunked up that it is not closed all the way. I will be looking into that soon. The plugs, wires, air filter are new. I cant seem to find anything wrong. I am going to buy some MAP sensor cleaner and clean that to see if it makes a difference. The check engine light does come on from time to time. Especially at low RPM's. I will be checking to make sure the O2 sensors are working properly next. If you guys have any sugestions or have run into this before please let me know. thanks
