engine swap need tranny info

im looking to swap a 5.0 out of an exploder into my 99 ford ranger. i already have a complete parts explorer, it was rolled. i would like to keep the manuel tranny, but i dont know what standard tranny will fit the 5.0

M5OD-R2, found in F150s and F250s.
ZF 5 speed from F350s and ?F250s?.

im not sure what else will fit but i know that those will.

thanks, now i wonder if ui can find the f250 tranny. does it have to be from the same year as the motor?

nope. just from the same motor. bolt patterns did not change from year to year. you will want to grab the Tcase out of whatever the tranny comes out of too if your keeping it a 4x4.

One of the problems with the ZF is that it is really big, body lift? It's a five speed but first gear is something like 5.73/1 ratio while 2nd is 2.94. Unless you're into heavy duty off-roading, I'd go with the M5Od.
