2.5L ('98-'01) Engine starts quick, idles mint, then dies.

I did a valve job and reassembled engine, taking care to connect everything back to their original connections. Starts immediately and idles smooth, then dies. Listening through the fuel filler pipe the fuel pump is not kicking on. But it does kick on upon turning the key to start the motor, to prime the system. Fuel pump was replaced 5000 miles ago, I blew out the plumbing with compressed air, etc. Any suggestions?
