Engine size tax

I don't know what the RX8 gets mpg wise. My rx7 got horrible gas millage, I think I averaged 13mpg for the most part. They are fun cars, the 50/50 weight distribution was great. The only downside to them was they are pretty unreliable engines for the most part. The average driver would blow one in about 50 to 70k.

We actually can control gas prices a bit. If everyone boycots say Exxon for a week then they will lower their prices. Then others will follow. Then we boycot someone else and they will lower their prices. Simple as that, but a lot of people need to do that in order for it to work. It's like the no fillup day but might actually work cause 1 day loss of sales is just a drop in the bucket for them.

Thank god I drive a 2.3.

Guess I'm gonna have to do some mild street performance mods to it because there's no way I want to pay up to $600!

I don't buy the whole "Don't buy gas day" thing, everybody still uses the same amount!! It is just purchased at a different time. IF people want to make a difference, I think using less gas (as much as I hate to type it) is the real answer. I do think you're on to something with the boycotting of a company till gas drops.

according to the chart I would be paying over 1k in more licensing fees. 1 Ranger with a 5.0/ 1 Explorer with a 4.0/ 1 F350 with the V-10. This doesn't include the wifes Explorer(another 4.0) I guess my XR-600 is free and clear (for now anyways, until they decide motorcycles are the root of all evil). When is enough, enough? Yeah we're born free, but taxed to death..........

P.S. anyone remember the tax man in the movie "Popeye"? Sound familiar ?

get used to such, the democrats want a government big enough to run your life, every aspect of it.i can't help humming a few bars of the beatles "taxman".dig deep boys and girls, have you heard obamas plan for the economy, creating jobs?

I think this is just a way to increase gov't revenues, its just masked as an environmental issue to get support from a significant special interest group(s).

Whether we like it or not, revenues need to increase. Our external debt far exceeds our GDP, and additionally we have a war effort to continue to fund. These place heavy burdens on taxpayers one way or the other. It doesn't matter who's in office the next election, gov't revenues will need to increase one way or the other to pay off our massive debt before other countries, such as China, realize that we really only have our word that we'll pay it back as collateral and stop buying up our debt (which is currently supporting our expenditures).

Even if China just slowed down buying our debt, it could have disastrous economic consequences.

The question is, what do we do? Keeping taxes low while supporting a major military expenditure overseas is unsustainable over the long term without the accumulation of a huge amount of debt, which is the situation we are currently in.

I personally predict that my generation will see a large hike in taxes coupled with diminished services in order to balance the budget and pay back the current foreign debt.

Unfortunately i think you are right on that one. I just hate how this is labeled as good for the environment, but the profits go to the Department of Transportation....Its crap!! I really hope this gets squashed in Washington and doesn't head to Colorado.:fie:

I agree 100%. Unfortunately, many laws are masked this way in order to gain enough legitimacy with one group fully supporting.

I'm quite liberal, but I know that money will never see its way to "helping" the environment. It'll end up in someone's pocket or spent on an equally useless program.

I honestly feel bad for whoever the next president is. He/she is going to have an enormous problem to solve in terms of what we're discussing.

It's typical fucking Washington trying to get every cent they can from you, hope this doesn't pass.

That's gotta be a joke, there arn't many engines out there under 2 liters. I honestly can't see this passing and if it does, I'm moving to England and I'll get me a bad assed ranger.

lol im from england, its a pain to get something over 2 litres.

but then 90% of the cars get 40+ to the gallon.

washington=california wannabe

Where did that come from? California doesn't have a tax on engine displacement.

An Exxon station may not be selling gas refined by an Exxon refinery, but the Shell station down the road may be selling Exxon gas, sort of.

An area is served by a handful of refineries that feed gasoline into several pipelines that transport gas to various areas in a region. In my area there are six refineries and two pipelines. The six refineries are owned by five different oil companies. 76, ARCO and Chevron have terminals in Sacramento supplied by fuel that was refined by Chevron, ConocoPhilips, Tesoro and Valero. The second pipeline is in a neighboring city and is supplied by Shell and Chevron.

So, if you wanted to boycott any one of these companies, just how much of an impact do you think you would make?

So much for one brand of gas being superior to another.

obama said he will bring the troops home, and he plans to use the money, not to pay on the deficit, but to create 5 million green jobs(enviromental).congress does nothing to bring the deficit down, every bill they get their hands on includes millions of your money to reward their supporters back home,340 million for clinton, obama won't say.vote buying, while blaming anybody else.
oil companies make what?10 cents a gallon, and you have to sell some gallons to make the profits they do,in short,we use too much!and who does the profits belong to?any shareholder or folks with tax shelter retirement plans like policemen, nurses, firefighters and on,and on and on.jammed highways are the result of proserity, more americans are driving, since 93 30%more trucks on the road.where are all these folks going?who is buying all this stuff in the trucks?higher taxes?umm.no,hell no!just tell congress the great give away is over and expenditures have to be voted on by us.if it's a legitimate issue, then a mojority vote will decide.green jobs or a larger gov't?

I pray you are right.

I think we have enough taxes for our vehicles. Isn't that what the Tag is for. And for some states, inspection stickers. Come on folks, why is it that I pay $65 for the Ranger and $150 for a KLX250 motorcycle per year in tags. The last thing I want is an engine tax & emission tax.

This is a push to get everyone to sell there old cars and get a smaller one, probably a hybrid. I say, light up those V-8's, american muscle still lives.
