My 92' rangers engine light has been on for about a month, after it warms up and now it wont run or start, it trys but it has excessive fuel coming out of the throttle body. How do I get the code?

Right next to the battery you will have the OBD I plug. You will need a code reader made just for Ford OBD I computers. Some will give you flashes to count for the code, other higher end units will have a readout to show you the code plus can read everything else about the engine's issues. If you don't know a mechanic that has good equipment you'll have to take it somewhere to have it "read". You can but the flashing code readers at parts stores for anywhere from $29.00 to $75.00 depending on how much you wanna do.

I also have a 92 ranger. And while I have a code reader. The computer has thrown codes at me for items that are not even on this truck. Researching this I discovered that the OBD 1's can and do thrown incorrect codes.

i own a digital one that cost less than 30 bucks its called th Equus Innova EPI 3145 OBD-1 Ford Scan Tool Code Reader you can find it at kragen, or checkers. it works great

The $30 code reader does absolutely NOTHING that a paperclip can't do. The only difference is whether you listen to a beep or watch a flashing light.

The computer is not going to throw codes for things that are not on the truck. You may have been going by the wrong code list. When in doubt, get a factory EVTM manual or look at a Mitchell book for your year. Those are far more accurate than a Haynes/Chiltons or checking the generic list at this site.

I have the paperwork from the mechanic that confirmed the code since I couldn't actually find a MAP sensor on my truck. And due to that I thought I was being a idiot and Paid a guy find the damn MAP He couldn't find it and then reread the computer and it came back MAP.

There is no map on my truck. computer definitely gave me the code for a bad map.

Next time you get a code like that, post it on here and some one can look it up properly. I'll say it again - the computer will not (and cannot) post codes for something completely irrelevant like that.
