Well I did some poking in the old shop manuals.
If your truck truly is a 94, it should still have a mechanically driven speedometer. That hole in the tail housing would be where the gear and cable go in.
The electronic VSS is only for engine management.
It may also be possible that the truck was swapped from an auto at some point in the past.
