We went to Gettysburg last year in the bus on US 30 instead of the interstate. That was the worst I have ever seen. 9% grades are the standard. A diesel has no throttle plate so there isn't much in the way of engine braking and I was going slow on the way down. My bus has hydraulic disks, for which I am grateful. Drum brakes, air or hydraulic, are so stupid it boggles the imagination. I never once felt brake fade.
